DANCES WITH THE ARTHOUSE: It's a Dead Man's Party. Who Could Ask for More?

by Indie Jones

Ladies and gentlemen, films lovers and lost wanderers, welcome to your latest dose of insight into the arthouse land. I know that chronicling a Paris Hilton movie last week seriously damaged the credibility of my column, but I'm going to keep on writing anyway — maybe I haven't lost all my readers. Although I must start by saying that, even though last week I announced that I would, in my next column (this very one), talk about Wong Kar Wai ... in fact, I won't. My Blueberry Nights has been pushed back to April. Sigh.

BARD'S EYE VIEW: Be Mine, Valentine Or Which Flick to Pick for the St. Valentine's Day Holiday Weekend

by Shrykespeare

Hello there all, and welcome once again to Bard's Eye View, the place to come for insight on which films to pick from this spring's roster, like a veritable cinematic medicine cabinet, looking for the remedy that will make it all better. Whether you are suffering from a mild case of the sniffles, or whether you are full-on bedridden, with cough, chills, fever, trick knee, gout, colic, lumbago and that truly odious substance that seems to ooze from every orifice at the most inopportune time. (At the moment, I reckon I am somewhere in between, which is why I've had to install a sneeze guard on my monitor. Wink.)

TIP OF THE WEEK: If In 2007 You Didn't Succeed ...

by Mister Informative

Greetings, Moguls! February is nearly upon us — will it be an even bigger wasteland than January? Or will something jump out to a rip-roaring opening weekend and surprise us all? Only time will tell. To help you navigate the potentially tricky landscape of upcoming February-April leagues, however, I'm here with a list of five belated New Year's resolutions that will help you improve your Moguls performance this year. Even though it may be too late to, say, avoid picking up Cloverfield, these tactics can certainly be applied to future seasons. After all, knowledge is invaluable, right? Proving, also, that even superheroes can have an off day once in a while (ask Hancock; he knows too), I'll also give you Mister Informative's Top 5 Moguls Do-Overs of 2007 — some slate choices I made this past year that, given the opportunity, I'd certainly do differently.

WEEKEND ESTIMATES: 'Spartans' Headed to Weekend Win w/$18.5M; 'Rambo' Shoots Up $17.2M 3-day; '27 Dresses' Edges 'Cloverfield' for No. 3; '4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days' Wins Weekend PTA Race!

by Steve Mason

SATURDAY NIGHT: Meet the Spartans (20th Century Fox) has pulled off the upset weekend win with a likely $18.58 million three-day, holding off Sly Stallone's mildly disappointing Rambo (Lionsgate), which should finish the frame with $17.28 million. Heading to the Super Bowl in Phoenix tomorrow, so no time for in-depth analysis, but the rough numbers are below.

WEEKEND TRACKING: 'Cloverfield' Set to Grab $21M-$23M; 'Meet the Spartans' Likely No. 2 With Just Shy of $20M; 'Rambo' at No. 3 w/$15M-$18M!

by Steve Mason

THURSDAY NIGHT: Film industry tracking points to a repeat win for Cloverfield this weekend. History points to a 50 percent-55 percent drop for the J.J. Abrams-produced monster flick, which would shrink it's weekend haul down to a likely $21 million-$23 million. The battle will be for No. 2, and I’m calling for an upset.

WEEKEND TRACKING: 'Cloverfield' to Scare Up $40M for 4-day; '27 Dresses' is Bridesmaid w/$17M-$20M; 'Mad Money' Won't Steal That Much of It

by Steve Mason

The star-studded premiere of Cloverfield (Paramount) was last night (Wednesday) at the studio lot on Melrose. Young Hollywood was out in full force, including everyone from Lindsay Lohan, Patrick Stump and bandmates from Fall Out Boy, and, of course, the cast of MTV's The Hills (with L.C., Audrina and Whitney not giving the time of day to Heidi and Spencer).
